1927-94 Walvis Bay accumulation of forty four cards and covers and two pieces displayed on twenty seven A4 pages in plastic sleeves showing postal history of Walvia Bay through South African Mandate Period through to independent Namibia. Good range of stamps applied tied by selection of cancels mostly indentified by a pencil notation relating to the postmark type as per the Postmarks of South West Africa by R.F. Putzel which has valuations of 35 years ago. Walvis Bay is a desert enclave on the South West African coast¬ mail has never been that plentiful due to the small population. Even some of the smaller local offices in the later period were little used. It has an interesting history: first part of the Cape Colony¬ then part of the Union of South Africa¬ then overun by the Germans 1914-1915¬ occupied by the Union Defence Forces in 1915¬ then under a League of Nations mandate and transferred to South West Africa in 1921. In 1977¬ administration was transferred to Green Point Constituency¬ Cape Town and so for a few years only South African stamps were valid. Lot includes 1966-93 eleven cards and covers (including FDC's and registered postal stationery) having Walvis Bay cancels plus 1971-78 four covers with Walvis Bay meter marks and three official unstamped covers with Walvis Bay bilingual Hospital cachets.
