1943 Incoming air mail cover typed Antigua address carried on First Air Mail Flight British Guiana to Antigua via Trinidad by British West Indies Airways sent registered at 34c rate (Sterling 1d = 2c) 11½d air mail plus 2½d surface mail and 3d registration = 1s 5d bearing KGVI 4c, 6c & 24c definitives tied by individual strikes of Air Mail GPO British Guiana double ring cds dated 5 April 1943. Same cds on reverse along with St John's Antigua cds dated 8 April 1943. British West Indies Airways was established in 1940 becoming a public company under an agreement with the governments of Trinidad¬ the Leeward Islands and the Windward Islands who set a rate of 2½d per ½ ounce between these islands (one of the lowest rates in the world). The service was extended to British Guiana in September 1945. ()
